Shinobue Embouchure Question

Q & A:
"I've been reading what you've said about embouchure, but I'm not sure how to do it."

Answer: What I wrote about the embouchure 3 weeks ago in this newsletter (in case you missed it, you can read it here), seems impossible to do!

Creating space between your upper lip and upper teeth by using the muscles at the base of your nose while you drop the jaw to retract the lower lip sounds like an impossible task!

I thought the same when Bunta sensei taught me this. But I trusted him and did it anyway although I had no idea how to!!

I did my very best to create that embouchure, first without my shinobue, by just looking at my face in the mirror.

The point is learning how to play shinobue is like walking through a room in the dark. You don't know what you are doing, but you do it anyway and things start to become clearer.

Then, one day, you will do something and say, "Oh!! That's what Miki was talking about!! I do get it!!"

But this only happens if you don't give up saying, "I don't know what Miki is talking about, and I can't do it."

You don't know what you don't know and you will only get to know it by searching for it!!

So believe you can do it and keep on searching! I KNOW you can do it!!!!! 😌
